July 11th Review of Mindful Eating 101 in the Charleston Post and Courier
Healthy college living
Chances are, the last thing on a high school graduate's mind is developing healthy eating habits in college.
But the "freshman 15" could be here before you know it. And with millions of teenagers overweight in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we all could benefit from some healthy eating guidelines when we move out of the house.
Enter a whole slew of college advice books that address diet as well as issues such as sex and drugs. We read three new ones to determine how helpful they might be and whether we'd give 'em as gifts to graduating seniors...
--"Mindful Eating 101: A Guide to Healthy Eating in College and Beyond" by Susan Albers (Brunner-Routledge, $15.95). We say: This in-depth guide to healthy eating analyzes how different aspects of life affect eating habits, and although it would be beneficial to college freshmen, it is not especially geared toward them.
